About these terms

These terms explain how My Life Story works when you book online. My Life Story is a trading name of Northern Education Videos Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 13932342.

By booking, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If anything is unclear, please get in touch before you book.

What you are buying

Record at Home is a guided online service for recording a life story in your own voice. Your booking includes:

• A private recording link that works in your web browser, with no app to download
• Guided questions for each part of life, with tips to help you start
• Room to add your own family questions and photos
• Your finished life story, put together with music, in a private online gallery

Prices and payment

Record at Home is currently £49 for one storyteller, as a half price offer. The usual price is £99. Each extra storyteller is £20. Prices are in pounds sterling, and no VAT is charged.

You pay in full when you book. Card payments are handled securely by Stripe. We send you a receipt by email, and you can view every receipt in your account.

Discount codes can only be used once per booking, have no cash value, and cannot be swapped for money or used with another code. Some codes only cover a set number of storytellers, or can only be used a limited number of times.

Recording your story

You can record at your own pace, and everything saves as you go. When you are happy, press Send my story. Your answers are then put together into your finished life story.

If you remember something else later, you can add or change answers and send your story again. Your finished story is then updated.

Recording on behalf of someone else

If you book for a parent, grandparent or friend, please make sure they are happy to take part, and that they know their recordings will be shared with the family.

Please only add photos you have the right to use, and only include details about other people that they would be comfortable with.

Who owns your story

Your recordings, photos and finished story belong to you and the storyteller. We only use them to create and deliver your life story. We never sell them, and we never share them without your permission.

You give us permission to store, copy and process your recordings and photos so we can create your finished story and keep it in your private gallery.

Keeping your story safe

Your finished story stays in your private online gallery for 12 months after it is finished, together with your recordings and photos. We email you reminders 3 months, 1 month and 1 week before they are removed.

Please download your finished story and keep a copy somewhere safe, such as your own computer, a cloud service or a USB drive. After 12 months, everything is permanently deleted, and we cannot recover it.

Anyone with your private gallery link can listen and download, so please only share it with people you trust.

Gifts

If you buy My Life Story as a gift, we send the recording link to the person you choose, on the date you choose, or to you as a printable gift card. Please check their email address carefully.

Changing your mind

You can cancel within 14 days of booking for a full refund, as long as no answers have been recorded. To cancel, simply get in touch.

If you have already started recording when you cancel, we may keep a fair amount for the part of the service you have used. Once your story has been sent and finished, the service is complete and it can no longer be cancelled.

This does not affect your legal rights. If something is not right, please tell us, and we will put it right.

Our responsibility to you

We take great care with every story. However, we cannot be responsible for recordings that are lost because of problems with your own device or internet connection, or for content that you or your family add.

We are not responsible for losses we could not reasonably have expected. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where the law does not allow it, for example for death or injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

In-person interviews and films

Interviews in person, over Zoom, and life story films are quoted and agreed separately. The details we agree with you will apply to those bookings.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms from time to time. The terms in place when you booked apply to your booking. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
